CASE: Julie
Issue – Julie had spent the last 20 years living her life within a 3 miles radius as the fear of getting lost had become so overwhelming for her. The slightest thought of venturing somewhere new, brought on a panic attack. This had spilled over into other areas of her life where anything new, unknown or uncomfortable would also be avoided.
Outcome – Julie felt compelled to seize back the lost control and start choosing again. She wanted to venture to to new places, try new things and really live her life fully.
What did we do? - Neither myself or Julie had control over whether she gets lost on any of her journeys. That is a part of life. However, she was able to control her response to it happening and develop the courage and confidence to push herself to try new things. Through a combination of hypnotherapy, CBT and NLP we tackled her stress and anxiety response so as Julie had coping mechanisms. Very quickly, Julie exposed herself to situations that had previously been off limits to her. She quickly realised that she was ‘ok’ - she could cope. The worst that would happen would be......?? She was late? She needed to ask for help? All of these seemed manageable. Throughout our 4 (1 hour) sessions, Julie was diligent and hard working as she was determined to succeed. Before our work together, she insisted that she would not be able to drive from Portsmouth to Bournemouth to see me. She would come by train! For our final session, she enjoyed jumping in her car and making her way to Bournemouth. Julie has transformed her life. Her friends noticed, her family noticed and most importantly, she notices that life feels good now. You can see Julie in this short clip as she leaves the clinic at the end of her 4th session.

CASE: Andy
Issue – A hardened smoker of 20 cigarettes a day for over 30 years Andy had tried everything. The time had arrived in his life when he was serious about ending the habit.
Outcome – To be healthy, well and to have left the habit behind him.
What did we do? - I have a 2 session Stop smoking programme. My personal belief is that a habit formed over a long period of time needs to be broken down consciously and more progressive thoughts and behaviours installed. My 2 step programme does this. As with all my clients I send out some pre work for them to do – in Andy’s case this helped to identify the motivation for smoking. During our first session, we used hypnosis to help Andy understand his different options for the future; one that involved cigarettes and one that doesn’t. This ensures motivation to stop is in place. Between the first and second session, Andy needed to completely disrupt his old pattern of smoking; different place, different time, different brand and consciously counting the number of puffs and reducing this daily. This helped break down the old habit and get rid of the nicotine. After day 3, Andy decided to stop smoking anyway as he really just didn’t want one! A result! During the second session we used thought stopping and some aversion therapy to ensure the habit was left behind and that he had a coping mechanism to deal with unwanted thoughts or desires for a cigarette. He hasn’t smoked since! He is relishing being back in control.
